comms team

The Comms team are always working behind the scenes. In fact this is the only 24 hour venue on site, it doesn’t close once until a day or two after the event finishes!

You’ll be managing radio communications by handing out the radios, charging batteries, and always having one radio channel to monitor during your shift. You’ll have a role in emergency response as well as coordinating day to day operations around site.

You’ll need to be a good communicator because not only will you be responding to queries on the radio, you’ll also be problem solving for delegates and team members face to face. Because you’re connected up to everything that’s going on, you’ll be everyone’s first port of call with questions about anything from important site security information to giving directions to Tesco. You’ll look after keys, lost property and site signs and a lot of your work will be directing the other teams to the resources they need to do their jobs.

You’ll do long shifts some days and short shifts on others so be prepared to work hard some days and rest on others, to deal with a little bit of everything, to say “over” on the radio so often you’ll do it in conversation, and above all to work really hard at just helping people!

You will have to supply your own accommodation but in return for your hard work you will get a free place at the event and all your meals (beginning on the morning of Day 1 – to the evening of Day 5) – what more could you want!

how old do i have to be?

The minimum age is 18.

what will my days look like?

You’ll alternate between long days and short days. On the long days you’ll work around 12 hours. You’ll start your shift at 8am, have a break in the afternoon, and finish at midnight. On short days you’ll only work during the break from lunch until dinner, around 5 hours.

During a shift you’ll know everything that’s happening on site but we will need you to stay in Comms all of the time so if you like to wander around, this might not be your ideal team!

when will I need to be on site?

Because Comms is open constantly, you’ll need to be able start on Day 0. That means the day before your chosen event starts. There’s also a morning shift on the day after the event finishes which we’d love your help with!

doi need anything extra to be on this team?

Just good communication skills and willingness to serve!
