Welcome to the latest news page! If anything at all is going on in the world of Soul Survivor you can find it here. If there's not much going on we might just make stuff up... you've been warned!

[dweeb] have a new single out...

posted 05/07/10

Our mates [Dweeb] are legends. Not only are they playing at Soul Survivor Weeks B&C, but they are also hosting our live lounge at Momentum... it's gonna be ace! But [Dweeb] are doing much more than just coming along to our events... they are currently just about to release a new single!

'It's OK' is out on 29th August and we reckon everyone should get involved and download a copy... The chaps are pushing to get airplay and here's what they say about the song:

"What we want to say with this is that though life can at times be really tough, though the unexpected circumstances that life throws up at us can at times seem overwhelming, and though we live in a world where we are choked by a media system that leaves us feeling inadequate and lonely, we believe that through all of that Jesus never, ever leaves us. Instead he stands by our side no matter how dark it gets... and because of that, because of Jesus, there is always, always hope."

Get involved and help tell the world 'It's OK' by doing one of the following:

Pre Order 'It's OK on your phone': Text 'dweeb' to 81088. You'll then receive a text on 29th August that will tell you how to download it.

Download 'It's OK' on iTunes: The single is out on 29th August so log onto iTunes and download it a million times (if you are minted that is).

As a little treat, you can watch a video of the song up there!

can you stay calm in a crisis?

posted 22/06/10

Do you have the super human ability to stay calm when all around is falling apart? Do you know how to use a two way radio and understand call signs like 'Alpha Dog', 'Charlie Chaplin' and 'Zulu One Two Zero Bees Wax'? Can you stay up all night fueled only by warm (not hot) cups of tea served in polystyrene cups (or their recycled equivalent)?

If so, you might be the perfect person to join our wonderful Comms team at any of our events this summer. Comms is the place where problems, emergencies and queries are dealt with. They are an awesome dedicated group who know lots of answers, and anything they don't know can be written on the back of a sponge. They are tireless servants who demand respect from Kings, Queens and social notables. They are friends for life. They are guardians of the realm.

You could be one of them...

serve in india for two or three months!

posted 16/06/10

Joybells is an orphanage and school which is currently home to 53 children aged from 3 - 11. In many cases the children may not be orphans as we understand that word but come from backgrounds of extreme poverty where any relations they may have are not able to care for them. Soul Action are looking for people who'd be interested in serving at Joybells this Autumn/Winter or early next year for two or three months.

Volunteers will be put to use as teachers, but there are lots of opportunities to get involved, so check out the info and see if it's something you'd be interested in!

world cup fever hits the office!

posted 11/06/10

Yes! We've been waiting for this day for four years! It's almost as exciting as the first day at Soul Survivor (but not quite). You've guessed it, it's the beginning of the World Cup and we're getting pretty excited in the office.

Dan can't sit still, Robbie's shaved his head, Simon keeps waving a St George's flag about, Laura's picking her favourite looking footballer from the Panini sticker album, Owen's humming 'Football's Coming Home' and Sarah's working out all her predicted results for the World Cup wall chart. It truly is a good day (the rest of the office are, of course, doing normal work and processing your bookings, sorting out team references and responding to your queries).

Anyway, as we're getting all geared up to celebrate the 8-0 win over the United States tomorrow, we figured we'd pop some tenuously God related football discussion your way. Head over to the online magazine to read how supporting England is a bit like the picture of God's relationship with Israel in Hosea. Yep, it's all true.

If that's not enough, check out some of the best goals of the last World Cup over there on your right... that should keep the excitement levels pretty high!

we need your help!

posted 11/06/10

Right then, we don't often ask for help, so when we do you know it's serious! We'd love you to have a long hard think if you know of anyone who could help us out by serving on team at our summer events this year. Every year we depend on literally thousands of volunteer team members to help make our events happen. They are all very nice, and we love them dearly, but we need more of them! So, if you could help, or know anyone who could we would love you dearly forever and ever...

If you need any more encouragement, then serving on team is - we think - a great way to serve Jesus too. You'll make some new friends and be part of an event that encourages thousands of people to get to know God a bit better. Convinced? We hope so!

Teams we really, really need help with:
A Police Advisor for Momentum...
Night Pastors at Soul Survivor Week A...
Welfare team at Week A...
Stewards at all events...

soul survivor day five: fancy dress!

posted 07/06/10

For the last few years a few of you lot have been undertaking a bit of 'fancy dressing' at Soul Survivor. We're not sure why, but hey, it's quite funny! Anyway, in 2010 we thought we'd make the whole costume wearing shenanigans an official part of the Soul Survivor events, so if you're game, you can join in by dressing up (as young Mike over there has) on Day 5 of all the events!

After a quick Facebook led survey we've decided on a fancy dress theme for you...

The winner is...

Cartoons and fairytales: 36%
What you want to be when you grow up: 15%
Cowboys & Indians: 14%
Seventies & Eighties: 12%
Something beginning with 'D': 10%
Sports: 9%
National Costume: 3%
Historical Figures: 1%

By outstanding popular vote, the winning theme for Day 5 will be cartoons and fairytales! So, get your costumes out, ironed and read for wearing on your last day at Soul Survivor!

Just to say, anyone who is actually a cartoon or fairytale character can dress up as a normal person if they fancy it..

all new video talks up for free!

posted 01/06/10

Hello. Sorry we've not had much news for a while, rest assured we are all ok and busily getting stuff sorted for the summer. To get you in the mood for our events in August, why not check out some of the new video talks we've just added to the site? Hear Mike speak on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit (a two part must if you missed the Holy Spirit and His Gifts Day back in May) and on Jesus' first miracle where he turns water into wine. If you're observant you'll even spot the development of Mike's hair styles in the videos too.

All three new talks are up at www.soulsurvivor.com/uk/tv so check it out (head to the link and select a vid that appears when you click the 'Choose a talk to watch' button). There is also updated info on when to catch the latest episodes of our God TV series too!

It's on every Saturday at 11:00am starting this weekend (8th May) so tune in! PS. Our 'Get yourself on the telly with a Soul Survivor Hoodie or T Shirt' competition isn't applicable if you feature on the God TV show, that would just be too easy...

we have our first full team!

posted 04/05/10

Hooray! We've filled out the first team and double page spread in our Panini World Cup sticker album! Can you guess who it is? Yep, that's right, it's Cameroon, the West African nation who will, thanks to the 1990 World Cup, be forever remembered for 59(ish) year old striker Roger Milla dancing round the corner flag and the rest of the team not really knowing how to tackle safely. Still, it's a start, and to show our respect for the team they will be our second choice nation (after England of course) in next month's World Cup!

We're also one sticker away from completing New Zealand and Chile, with South Africa and Serbia both needing two stickers to fill out the page! We're looking strong.

Don't forget you can do some swops with us, we have loads of spares and still need a good few so check below and email in!

More actual Soul Survivor related news will be coming soon (we promise), but here are the basics. Mike is at Soul Survivor Holland and we're very chuffed as Tom Field from New Zealand has just joined us for a few months to help out about the place. That's interesting isn't it?
