andreana got married

posted 23/02/10

We love a good wedding, and this weekend just gone, long time member of the Soul Survivor team, Andy Arganda tied the knot to her beloved young man, Paul!

Andreana has been part of the Soul Survivor team for around 8 or 9 years and she's done everything from being Mike's PA to helping lead times of worship... she has an awesome voice. Anyway, it was a lovely day and here's the evidence.

Plus, we thought you'd also like a sample of the wedding singer... Ben Cantelon. Outside of his day job at Worship Central Ben is available for weddings, baptisms and the occasional 50th birthday party... he knows all the hits, including this little number by Stevie Wonder*. Check him out.

It's just a little Quicktime movie, so should just about play if you have Quicktime installed. If not, sorry.

That was a joke, of course. Please don't ask us to book Ben as your wedding/party singer. Although we'd find it funny, he will say no. Sorry.

who's in the house?

posted 19/02/10

Yes! It's here. Our first unleash of the long list of top speakers, bands, guests and worship leaders who will be coming to Soul Survivor or Momentum this summer! We're well excited, especially because our old time friends Matt and Beth Redman will be with us during Weeks B&C to run a few seminars... it'll be awesome to have them back with us, as if it wasn't for them Mike P would never have managed to get Soul Survivor off the ground!

But we don't have any favourites, there are loads of great chaps, including a Soul Survivor debut for two bands we're all pretty excited about seeing live and in the flesh. Tom and Olly span more genres than we've had hot dinners, whilst The Gentlemen look sure to give a musical onslaught worthy of the terms 'rock' and 'roll'. And, of course, the 29th Chapter are back hosting the absolutely massive Underground at Weeks A, B and C! You heard it here first (or on our Facebook).

And we're not leaving out Momentum either. We have some awesome speakers lined up including Roger & Maggie Ellis, Mike Erre, Chris Lane, Rich & Ness Wilson, Krish Kandiah and loads more. Plus Tim Hughes will be back to lead our times of worship. It's gonna be ace!

Check the links for the full list confirmed so far... there will be another unleashing of names in a month or so!

sad about durban teams not happening?

posted 17/02/10

We're really sad we've had to cancel the Durban 2010 teams. It was a tough choice to make, but we're not wanting to leave you in the lurch if you were planning on a summer team or mission, so we've been in touch with our good friends at Tearfund and they, with Soul Action, are here to help!

Being the awesome people they are, they are running a series of alternative programs in Durban. There are now two options to serve this summer with Transform/Soul Action in some of the same projects that would have been involved in SOULINTHECITY Durban. These aren't Soul Survivor run events, but will be ace, so here are the options.

1) Soul Action Durban 2010 is happening from 17th - 31st July, subject to sufficient demand. Download this fact sheet for more information or follow the link at the bottom of this article (applications close on 28th February)!

2) 4 week Summer team: Applications are open for a 4 week team to a project called Ethembeni, Howick (an hour north of Durban). The trip is scheduled to be from 1st - 29th August 2010. Applications are open until 15th March 2010.

who's coming to soul survivor or momentum in 2010?

posted 17/02/10

We know, we know. It's just so exciting! Who on earth will be coming to speak, lead, play a gig or do something else exciting at this summer's events? It's a good question and we're currently working really hard to get a few top chaps, friends and stragglers confirmed! Our diaries are out, the invites have been sent and this Friday we'll be unleashing the first in a whole bunch of wonderful names and faces onto the world wide web! Tis very exciting, yes?

Who will be coming? Bono? Kaka (the footballer)? Yazz (the 80's singer)? Cliff (your Mum/Grans fave)? Unfortunately none of these could make it, but rest assured, we've pulled out all the stops and this Friday you'll be jumping up and down with excitement at all the fun stuff you'll be hearing, learning and doing at Soul Survivor or Momentum!.

invincible by 29th chapter: support the cause!

posted 11/02/10

Boom! Calling all the real hip hoppers, clip cloppers and downloading shoppers! Our very, very good mates the 29th Chapter are taking their sound to the next level by giving their new single 'Invincible' a massive push, hoping the hit will make it big in the charts... And we're well up for seeing them do it! Check out the vid for the track (it's very good, it even had Mike P singing along the other day), which is officially released on 22nd February... that's a week on Monday.

If you like it then get downloading and support the cause. The lads have been part of the London music scene for years and years, and with this track we reckon it's time they broke through and showed the wider world what they are made of! Get yourself a copy (or two), email this link to your mates, hum the tune all day at school, post a Facebook update or Tweet on the song... even play it to your Gran, she'll love it!

And rest assured, the 29th boys are all set to come and host the Underground at this summer's Soul Survivor events... it's gonna be off the hizz-ook. You know it.

are you a woman?

posted 10/02/10

Are you a woman? If so, the wonderful New Wine (where all things Soul Survivor were born) are hosting a series of days specifically for women. We'd really encourage you to go, especially if you were a bit disappointed by the cancellation of our Soul Sista tour.

The days always prove to be a real success and there are some great stories of God healing, moving, encouraging and doing loads of stuff at these events in the past. Plus, the first ever man to speak at one of these events will be our very own Mike Pilavachi. Yep, it's a strange one (we think it must have been some kind of diary mix up, but if you're all ok with it, he is... though he is joking about wearing a dress to the day).

The fantastic Debra Green, Jenny Harding and Julie Connoly, are all speaking too, which is a relief as they will be able to give a much more rounded feminine perspective on following Jesus than Mike can.

The dates and locations are:
27 February 2010
Westminster Central Hall, London
With Debra Green & Mike Pilavachi

6 March 2010
Harrogate International Centre
With Jenny Harding & Julie Connolly

thinking of sending a card this valentine's day?

posted 09/02/10

It's Valentine's Day on Sunday! A day to celebrate love, relationships and romance. We love it... but we also hate it a bit too. All those cards (or not if you're like any of us), unrequited feelings and chocolates with gooey centres (mmmm). So, we're here to help. Thinking of sending a card, wondering what to do if you don't get one back or just panicking that you might get one from someone you don't fancy (awkward)? Well, read our little article that explains some of our past card sending antics and hopefully you'll have some Jesus centred advice on how to treat others this Valentines Day!

soulnet happened...

posted 09/02/10

We've just got back from the lovely Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest with over 550 awesome youth workers from around the UK (and some from even further afield). We had a fantastic time together, learning afresh from God's word and spending loads of time just waiting on God's spirit. Have a read of these comments from chaps who came along to get a glimpse of the action...

“The weekend was ACE and has impacted my team and my church as they came back and worshipped and prayed and inspired people :-) woop.”
Claire Farley

“It hit the spot perfectly and was just what I needed at this time!!”
Nick Francis

All in all, thank you so much to all the team, it was great and i really appreciate the efforts everyone went to. Many blessings, Hannah”

Our annual youth leader retreat to the woods of Sherwood Forest is now only one week away! We've already got over 500 lovely youth workers coming along to get a bit of a nice break in the countryside, and we can't wait to unwind, spend time meeting with God and hanging out together!

If you're still thinking of coming, do get in touch as spaces are now really limited. We've taken down online bookings, so if you or a small group would like to come, email us at soulnet@soulsurvivor.com and we'll see what we can do! Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze you in!

worship central: london

posted 26/01/10

Our good mates Tim Hughes, Al Gordon and Ben Cantelon are planning an awesome two day Worship Central event this March (on 12th-13th) and we're all getting pretty hyped about it!

They'd initially planned to hold just a single day event, but with so many speakers, musicians and leaders involved they've had to expand the programme, which is ace!

Our very own Beth Croft and Mike Pilavachi are heading into London to help out and they will be joined by Martin Smith (from Delerious), Nicky Gumbel (from Holy Trinity Brompton), Phil Wickham (the dude from California who wrote that song Beautiful as well as Canons) and Phil Wall (from Signify Ltd).

Places are limited to 2,100, so be sure to book in as soon as you can. Tickets are £25. Click on the link below for more.

Worship Central is for worship leaders, musicians and everyone passionate about the worshipping life of the local church. The event will include extended times of worship, teaching and ministry, as well as an engaging mix of practical, theological and leadership workshops that will challenge and inspire worship teams. This will be the only Worship Central conference in London this year so don’t miss out!

change of date for the holy spirit day and 2010 teams bbq (now 8th may)...

posted 21/01/10

Uh oh. We had a bit of a shocker with this one. We've had to change to dates of the Holy Spirit day and Teams BBQ for many reasons (but mainly the very happy occassion of a wedding). So, although we would love to see someone get married as part of a Soul Survivor event, we've actually moved the events a week forward to the 8th May.

We hope you can still make the date, sorry for the change! Please note, if you turn up at the Soul Survivor Warehouse on the old date there is no guaruntee that you'll get fed, even if you do wear a suit.

book and pay now to save money on your summer event pass...

posted 18/01/10

If you're a sensible character then you'll love this top little Soul Survivor tip. Basically, the earlier you book and pay for your ticket to one of our summer events the cheaper it is. However, like the January sales, our offer is limited...

If you book and pay in full on or before midnight on 29th January (that's a week on Friday) you'll save £18 per full delegate fee for the Soul Survivor events and £20 for the Momentum events.

So, we're calling out to all you sensible chaps and chapesses. Book for Soul Survivor or Momentum in the next few days and you (or your parents/bank manager) will have up to £20 spare to do something with (below is a good idea)...

By the way, that's Glynn over there. He's a youthworker. He's not sensible, hence the ice cream. He'll probably book the day the event starts...

haiti appeal launched...

posted 15/01/10

OK, so this is some serious stuff. You've probably heard the tragic news about the earthquake that hit Haiti earlier this week and how the already poor population of the country are facing some horrendous challenges. Well, we'd love you to do what you can; Give money to support aid and relief work if you are able, but just as importantly, pray.

Pray for God's grace, healing, compassion and presence in the country.

Pray that the emergency, relief and aid services that are trying to get to those in need can do so quickly and with positive results.

Pray for the people of the country, their families and their friends. Pray for comfort. Pray for miraculous provision and that all those suffering would be safe from harm.

Pray for hope.

If you'd like to turn your prayers into action then why not try and organise an ad-hoc non uniform day at school/college work and ask for everyone to donate a few pence or pounds to take part? There are loads of fundraising ideas out there, so let us know what you're doing (email editor@soulsurvivor.com).

If you have any money you would like to give, or are raising some cash, we recommend that you send it to our good friends over at Tearfund. They have long term partnerships with projects in Haiti and are supporting emergency responses to the earthquake.

Head to Tearfund to give and find out more...

we have a poorly office dog...

posted 05/01/10

Sorry to kick off the New Year on a sad note, but we had to show you how poorly our office dog, Trea is. Yep, it's quite upsetting. Trea had a bit too much fun over Christmas and has been in the wars... she had a lump removed from her throat and is now recovering with the help of every dogs nemisis... a protective cone.

The cone obviously stops her from scratching where her little wound is, but it also means she keeps walking into things, can't pick up her bone properly or turn around quickly... it's quite distressing. Still, she'll pull on through and be back to her old self begging for food at any opportunity and jumping on desks any day now. Do pray for a speedy recovery for her if you get a few spare minutes...
